ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The AfricaTech Awards, co-hosted by VivaTech and IFC, are part of the AfricaTech program, a core initiative launched at VivaTech in 2017. Over the past five years, AfricaTech has gone from strength to strength, heightening visibility for Africa’s innovation ecosystem. Since its creation, the program has hosted more than 1,000 African startups and delegations from over a dozen African countries, showcasing the best of their innovations and tech ecosystem. Past delegations have included African ministers and heads of state such as Macky Sall, President of Senegal, Paul Kagame, President of Rwanda and Felix Tshisekedi, President of the Democratic Republic of Congo
In 2022, the program welcomed 9 partners, including AG Partners, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Mauritius, the Republic of the Congo, Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF), Senegal, South Africa, and Tunisia.
In 2022, the AfricaTech program launched a prize, the AfricaTech Awards, to reward and support innovative startups in three categories - Climate Tech, Health tech and Fintech. This award has been supported and co-organized by IFC - a member of the World Bank Group. Over 300 startups applied for the Awards, 9 companies were hosted at VivaTech to showcase their innovative solutions, and 3 were awarded during a final ceremony on VivaTech's main stage in front of investors, international media, and top executives from the world of venture capital and tech.
2023 AMBITION
In 2023, VivaTech will focus on the African continent by highlighting the key trends in Africa with the most inspiring thought leaders and experts in a dedicated conference track. During VivaTech, a dozen African countries will be exhibiting their best startups in the AfricaTech Village where entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to pitch their innovative solutions for the African continent.
